Reframe Spaces

Co-Created Murals Project within criminal justice
May 2023 – Feb 25

After a successful pilot phase we collaborated with a criminal justice sector client to transform waiting areas in 14 locations across London. This project built on our experience of creating murals for MOPAC and HMP The Mount.

"Helping with the painting made me feel like I had a voice for the first time since being released. Seeing the drawings go from ideas on a bit of paper to being on a whole wall made me feel happy and gave me the confidence boost to start doing things with my own artwork."

The initiative began with consultations where people accessing these spaces shared ideas on how to enhance them. Those interested participated in the co-design and painting of murals alongside INYBB artists and facilitators. Having a calmer environment can influence how people behave in the space and and how they perceive the service, leading to better outcomes for those accessing the spaces as well as those working within them. Seeing their ideas come to life through art can have a positive impact on how people feel about themselves. If their ideas matter and count for something, they matter; this project has helped people with their confidence and formed part of their rehabilitation journeys as well as improved waiting environments.
